A large exhibition about Swedish metal opens at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern on February 13 next year. "Total metal" shows how the extreme metal scene started as an underground phenomenon and a youth uprising 40 years ago, but how the genre is now celebrated worldwide.
"I want to show the power and passion that has created and continues to drive this scene. How important the music and cohesion are. I also look forward to showing what a rich cultural heritage it is that many dismiss as noise actually rests on", says cultural journalist Ika Johannesson, who has curated the exhibition together with Stadsteatern Kulturhuset.
Among other things, stage clothes, fanzines, demo cassettes, props, artworks, and moving material will be on display.
Ika Johannesson has previously depicted the Swedish death and black metal history in the reportage book "Blod eld död".
