A young Swedish man who disappeared in connection with a hike in Nepal in late 2023 has been confirmed dead, reports Expressen.

In early August 2024, human remains were found at a location near the site of the man's disappearance. Now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has confirmed the death.

"The MFA is aware that a Swedish man in his twenties, from Götaland, died in Nepal at the end of December 2023. The next of kin have been informed," the MFA writes, according to Expressen.

The MFA does not want to comment on the fact that it has taken five months from the discovery of the remains to the confirmation of the death.

It's tricky cases with deaths abroad and you have to get it confirmed and investigated and ensured. It can take time with contacts with authorities in other countries – generally, it's like that, says Mats Samuelsson at the MFA's press service to TT.
