In two instances, Sweden has won World Championship matches with a 28-goal margin, 33–5 against Belarus in 2014 and 34–6 against Germany in 2015.
On Tuesday, a new record was set when Hungary was thoroughly defeated at the Lidköping arena. When Oscar Wikblad scored 28–0 in the 79th minute, the record was tied, and barely five minutes later, Martin Landström rolled in his eighth goal in the match to 29–0.
Vladimir In-Fa-Lin and Nicklas Ögren each scored a goal to increase the score to the final 31–0.
Ten different goal-scorers were recorded in the match. Landström scored the most, eight goals, with Alexander Härndahl right behind with six goals.
Sweden, the heavy favorite to win the World Championship gold in the absence of Russia, has thus begun the home championship with two wins, against Norway (9–3) and against Hungary. On Wednesday, the USA awaits.
