John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel "The Summer of 1985" is becoming a TV series next year. SVT is planning six episodes of the series, with a script by Amy Deasismont and Melina Mararki. Björn Stein ("Midnight Sun", "Whiskey on the Rocks") will be directing.
"The mix of darkness and humor, the recognition in John Ajvide's razor-sharp characters and the nostalgia of looking back on a life-changing time in life, where what you want to remember and maybe even forget can't be defended against, was what drew me into the project", says Deasismont in a press release.
"The Summer of 1985" is about a group of friends who find a mermaid in Roslagen's archipelago one summer. They hide the creature in a bathtub in a boathouse, and it turns out that it has abilities that have a divisive impact on the tight-knit group.
