There were mostly positive messages on Asia's leading stock exchanges in early Wednesday trading. The happiest tones came from Hong Kong, where the Hang Seng index was up nearly 3 percent at lunchtime.
The composite indices in Shanghai and Shenzhen had also risen, by 0.5 and 0.6 percent, respectively.
The exception was the Tokyo Stock Exchange, where both the important Nikkei 225 and the broader Topix index fell by 0.9 percent.
