It's still slow with new car sales. The registrations of new passenger cars in May fell by 12 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the monthly measurements from Mobility Sweden.

So far this year, the decline is equally large, minus 12 percent, compared to January-May 2023.

The industry organization senses a glimmer of hope.

"May had the highest registration figures of the year so far and the industry's internal order statistics show a slight increase compared to the previous year", writes Mobility Sweden.

Electric cars accounted for around 30 percent of new car registrations in May, lower than the share of 41 percent in May last year.

The truck market is also retreating, minus 14 percent for heavy trucks in May.
