70-year-old Bannon has served a four-month prison sentence for defying Congress – partly within the framework of Congress's investigation into the violence and storming of the Capitol in January 2021, and partly for not handing over documents related to attempts to change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
He says in his podcast after his release that he is now focusing on helping Trump win the election.
The four months in federal prison did not break me, they gave me strength, says Bannon in the podcast.
I am more energetic and more focused than I have ever been in my entire life.
When he was convicted last summer, Bannon referred to himself as a "political prisoner" and said he was proud to have been convicted because it showed that he stood up against a biased justice system.
Further legal proceedings await him. In a state court in New York, he is accused of, among other things, money laundering and fraud when he received monetary donations allegedly intended for the construction of a wall along the US-Mexico border.
