The three channels are owned by Stephen King and his wife Tabitha, and the first one was started in 1983. The channels have different orientations and play rock 'n' roll, retro music, and alternative music.

"When other radio channels in the country have been taken over by large corporations, I have loved that we have been local and independent owners all these years. I have loved the staff, who have kept the channels going and entertained people and given local businesses a way to communicate with their customers", says King in a statement.

At the same time, the horror writer does not hide that the ownership has been a pure loss-making business. The manager of the three radio channels, Ken Wood, says in a statement that the decision was sad, but expected.

"We have been lucky to have been able to keep it going as long as we have done".
