At least 16 people have died and over 12,000 homes have been damaged in severe flooding across large parts of Sri Lanka.
The government has been forced to shut down parts of the country's power grid and as a precautionary measure has closed a majority of schools. When they can reopen depends entirely on how the battle against the flooding goes, according to the education department.
The country has been hit by an unusually harsh monsoon with heavy rain and strong winds for weeks. Sunday's rain has caused major damage to infrastructure and farmland.
