The American artist Brenton Wood, known for some classic soul songs, is dead, writes Variety.
The news of his death comes from the singer's manager, who states that Wood passed away due to natural causes surrounded by his family.
Alfred Jesse Smith, which was Wood's name before he took his stage name, was born in Louisiana in 1941 and moved to Los Angeles as a young man.
His artistic career began in the early 1960s and he had his breakthrough in 1967 with the singles "The oogum boogum song" and "Gimme little sign". He continued to record music during the 70s and 80s, but without achieving any major successes on the charts.
Brenton Wood was 83 years old.
