The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued a yellow warning, the lowest level on a three-level scale – for snowfall in eastern Svealand during Tuesday morning and forenoon.
One thing that affects is the timing, that it is expected during the morning in connection with rush hour traffic and that it appears to come at quite short notice, which has led us to assess that a warning is justified, says Mattias Lind.
The warning applies from five in the morning until lunch, but the snowfall is expected to have ceased in the northern parts of the area already during the forenoon.
The SMHI has also issued a yellow warning for snowfall in parts of western and central Svealand and northernmost Götaland, which applies until six o'clock on Tuesday morning. The SMHI expects up to one decimeter of snow, primarily in southern Dalarna.
In Dalarna, the precipitation has already turned into snowfall, and it is snowing quite heavily in some areas right now. Then it is still rain and quite a few plus degrees if you look south in the warning area, but it is expected to become a quite rapid change during the night and it appears that there will be slightly larger snow amounts there than in eastern Svealand, says Lind.
