Simon Cowell is on the hunt for Britain's next big boy band. In a new program on Netflix, the music mogul will find new stars.
British music needs a new Zayn, says Cowell to BBC.
"The Midas touch" is the title of the new talent hunt, where Simon Cowell is on the hunt for a new generation's One Direction. It was Cowell who launched the extremely popular boy band in the early 2010s, and thereby cemented the band members' star status.
Simon Cowell particularly highlights Zayn Malik as a fixed star in One Direction, and that more talents of his caliber need to emerge.
For some reason, there hasn't been a big British boy band in the last ten, twelve years. It's crazy, he says to BBC and continues:
I always tell young people that they have a better chance if they start their career in a band.
Over the weekend, the first auditions for the program were held in Liverpool, where interest was reportedly lukewarm according to British media. Upcoming auditions will also take place in Dublin and London.
Simon Cowell is also behind other talent hunts, such as "The X Factor" as well as the British and American versions of "Talent".
