The 18-year-old parrot had a broken bone in its wing, severe atherosclerosis, and arthritis in its hips. It wasn't until the owner was threatened with a fine that the parrot was put down. Now the man is being prosecuted for animal cruelty, reports Sydsvenskan.
Police officers who were at the Malmö apartment on another matter noticed that the parrot appeared to be in poor condition. The man explained to the police that he would like to have one last summer together with the parrot, but the police made a report to the county administrative board.
During a visit to the veterinarian, euthanasia was recommended. The man was initially hesitant, but eventually booked the euthanasia. The prosecutor believes that the parrot was subjected to suffering, since the owner failed to provide it with care despite knowing that it was sick.
