Wiles has been pointed out by many as the architect behind Trump's comeback and has been mentioned as a favorite for the post she has now been assigned. In her role as campaign manager, she is considered to have been the one who managed to curb Trump's more impulsive outbursts.
"Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to make America great again", says Trump in a statement.
Despite her important role, she made sure to keep a low profile during the election campaign – when Trump celebrated his victory on Wednesday, she declined to speak to the supporters.
Worked for Reagan
During Trump's previous term as president, he went through a total of four chiefs of staff.
To succeed as a chief of staff, it is required that the person in question functions as the president's confidant, assists in driving through the president's agenda, and balances political proposals and measures. They also often function in practice as a kind of gatekeeper who has significant influence over who the president spends their time with and talks to.
Wiles, born in 1957, has a long background in politics. In 1979, she began working for a Republican congressman and got a role in Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign the following year.
"She is fantastic"
She has been part of Donald Trump's circle since 2016, when she was in charge of his campaign work in Florida. Since then, she has steadily risen through the ranks and become an increasingly important figure, something Trump has also shown by repeatedly referring to her at his election rallies.
She is fantastic. Fantastic, he said about Wiles at a meeting with voters in Milwaukee earlier in November.
