All the deceased are from Örebro County, seven women and four men of the following ages:
A 32-year-old woman, a 38-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman, a 52-year-old woman, a 54-year-old woman, a 55-year-old woman, a 68-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man, a 31-year-old man, a 35-year-old man, and a 48-year-old man.
We have worked intensively with the identification work in recent days, and in parallel with that, we have of course also worked very hard on the investigation. Just like everyone else, we are asking ourselves how and why this happened, says police spokesperson Fredrik Svedemyr.
Frustration among relatives
Lars Bröms, who is the leader of the police group that has worked on identifying the deceased, says that he understands the frustration that relatives feel about having to wait for information.
It is important to never take shortcuts in an identification process. Among other things, many think that we can do visual identification, but it can actually be the case that a body part is missing, making it difficult to see a face, for example.
The 35-year-old man among the deceased is the suspected perpetrator.
"The investigation will likely show whether the degree of suspicion increases or not, but right now, everything points to the 35-year-old man among the deceased being the perpetrator," the police write on their website.
Lars Bröms does not want to confirm whether it is the man who has been pointed out in several media outlets.
I and my staff have been tasked with identifying eleven people. If the perpetrator is one of those people, the investigation leadership will have to answer.
"Attacked us all"
It has previously been confirmed that there is a Bosnian citizen and several Syrian citizens among the deceased, according to the respective countries' embassies.
"When the perpetrator attacked them, he attacked us all," says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) in a written comment.
"Regardless of what the police investigation reveals, this terrible event has awakened a special fear and sense of vulnerability among many people with immigrant backgrounds in Sweden. This is something that we as a society must understand, respect, and meet," Kristersson continues.
