They are convicted of spreading blasphemous posts online about the Prophet Muhammad and the Quran, according to a lawyer.

The men were reported by members of a "citizen guard" consisting of lawyers. In recent years, the number of prosecutions for alleged blasphemy has skyrocketed in Pakistan. Several times, people accused of blasphemy have also been killed by outraged crowds.

In October last year, 767 Pakistanis, mostly young men, were reportedly detained, accused of blasphemy. Many of them were arrested by members of civil society.

However, Pakistan has never executed anyone for the crime.
