Truls Möregårdh was a bit slow to start in the first two sets, but the Olympic Games silver medalist in Paris won anyway in three straight sets.

In the first round of the WTT tournament in Beijing, the 11th-ranked Swede beat Japanese Maharu Yoshimura with 12–10, 12–10, 11–7.

Möregårdh had a hard time getting started in the first two sets, where the 42nd-ranked Japanese player had the lead initially and even had set balls in both sets. In the third, it was Möregårdh in the driver's seat, and after 7–7, the double Olympic Games silver medalist won four straight points.

The 24th-ranked Anton Källberg advanced to the next round by beating world number nine Lin Yun-Yu, Taiwan, 3–2 in sets.

Källberg, who was part of the Olympic Games silver medal team, won the first two sets, but Lin took the next two. Källberg took the fifth and decisive set with 11–9.

Mattias Falck, Linda Bergström, and Stina Källberg will enter the singles competition in China Smash on Monday.
