The names of 72,899 Russian soldiers who have been killed in the war against Ukraine have been confirmed by BBC and independent Russian Mediazona.
In an earlier update at the end of September, there were approximately 1,800 fewer names on the list.
The two media companies continuously review open sources to identify soldiers who have been killed in the war. The actual death toll is likely to be significantly higher since the statistics are based on open sources such as death notices, information from relatives, media reports, and statements from local authorities.
