Russia and Iran promise each other strengthened military cooperation, as part of a 20-year agreement.
The two countries – already close allies – commit to "deepen and broaden relations in all common areas of interest and to strengthen cooperation in the security and defense fields", the agreement states, signed on Friday and published by the Kremlin.
According to officials from both Iran and Russia, the agreement also covers science, education, and culture.
This is really a breakthrough document, said Russia's President Vladimir Putin at the ceremony when the agreement was signed in Moscow.
