No NATO country can send soldiers to Ukraine as part of a peace settlement in the country, says Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov since the question of peacekeeping forces has been raised among European leaders.

The move comes as Russia and the US have held a first meeting on the way to some form of agreement on the Russian invasion war in Ukraine, although without Ukrainian presence.

Furthermore, Lavrov emphasizes that it does not matter under which flag these NATO countries send soldiers – as a national or EU flag.

This is, of course, unacceptable to us, he says.

Several NATO countries – including the UK and Sweden – have stated that they are considering sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine in the long run. The question of peacekeeping forces to Ukraine was discussed by European leaders during an emergency summit in Paris on Monday.

French President Emmanuel Macron – who is convening a second summit on Wednesday – tells French media that Paris is not preparing to send ground troops that are fighting on the front line in Ukraine. Instead, he says that France is considering sending "experts or even soldiers in limited scope, outside any conflict zone” together with its ally the UK.
