The popular Netflix series "Emily in Paris" has become a success – also for France's tourism industry. So President Emmanuel Macron became concerned when he realized that the series was about to leave the French capital.
Parts of the fourth season take place in Rome, where Emily (Lily Collins) moves with her new love.
We will fight hard. And we will ask them to stay in Paris! "Emily in Paris" in Rome is just unthinkable, said Macron recently in an interview with Variety.
The outburst prompted Rome's Mayor Roberto Gualtieri to react.
"Doesn't President Macron have more important things to worry about", wondered Gualtieri in a statement to Hollywood Reporter, adding:
"We see Emily's move to Rome as a confirmation that our city is becoming increasingly important and attractive", wrote Gualtieri and concluded by saying that Macron should "take it easy".
The series' creator Darren Star tells People Magazine that the plot has been moved to Rome to "develop the story".
Star has previously said that the upcoming, fifth, season will take place in both Paris and Rome.
