Dreamhack stays in Stockholm: "Needed to move"

Dreamhack celebrated 20 years by moving from Jönköping to Stockholm. The gaming festival will now stay there. I understand that they are disappointed, says festival manager Kalle Pilfalk to Expressen about those who wanted to keep the festival in Småland.

About 52,000 people visited the festival over the weekend, which was held for the first time at Stockholmsmässan.

This is 8,000 more people than last year's festival, which took place in Jönköping. However, the attendance figure does not quite reach the target of 55,000 visitors, according to Expressen.

Jönköping has been a big part of Dreamhack. But all good things come to an end, and to develop the festival, we felt we needed to move to a larger location, simply put, says Kalle Pilfalk to the newspaper.

I understand that they are disappointed, it has been there for over 20 years and has been a big part of Jönköping.

Moving back to Småland is not an option, according to Pilfalk.

Now we should listen to our participants and see what we can do better, he says to Expressen.

Dreamhack originated from computer meetings in Dalarna in the 1990s, and from 2001, Jönköping has been the host city. Over the years, Dreamhack has developed from a smaller computer meeting to a more general gaming festival.

In addition to the e-sports tournaments, which this year saw South Korean dominance, the organizers had invested heavily in concerts with rappers such as Greekazo, Dizzy, and Adaam. Anis don Demina also performed at this year's Dreamhack.

The festival had also invited international gaming celebrities such as Sidemen and MrSavage, as well as Swedish EllenViking and FortniteFarmor.
