The Customs Service has never previously stopped as much heroin as during the first half of the year, not even during a full year, shows the half-year statistics.
This is about 106 kilos of heroin, compared to 0.1 kilos during the corresponding period last year. The total amount of narcotics ended up at 5.5 tons, while the same amount last year was 4.7 tons.
Narcotics smuggling fuels the violence spiral in society and nourishes the criminal economy, he says.
Almost ten times as much semi-synthetic cannabinoids were stopped, something that the authority sees as a worrying increase.
This is about preparations that are often stronger than cannabis and can lead to serious poisonings, according to Johan Norrman. Ten years ago, one saw how spice (a collective name for different substances that resemble cannabis) claimed victims, he notes.
This is at least as dangerous, but more cunning.
Quantities of explosive goods
In addition, the Customs Service seized almost three times as many explosive goods. During the first half of the year, more than 42,000 explosive goods were seized, an increase from 15,000 during the same period in 2024. To a large extent, this is about so-called bangers, which, among other things, can be used for homemade charges and have been used in gang-related bombings.
The reason for the increase is largely that the Customs Service, after several bombings earlier in the year, and a government assignment following them, has intensified the hunt for explosives and explosive goods, according to Johan Norrman.
Difficult to find hand grenades
The Customs Service, on the other hand, has not managed to increase the seizures of hand grenades.
In the bombings that occur, hand grenades are used, as well as homemade bombs. But hand grenades, which are often imported via vehicles and in single copies, are more difficult to detect than bangers, which are usually imported into the country through postal and package flows, says Johan Norrman.
