The rebel movement M23 has taken over a strategically important city in the eastern parts of Congo-Kinshasa, according to a local official.
Kanyabayonga has been in the hands of M23 since Friday evening, it's total devastation, the population is tired, says the source who wants to remain anonymous.
Kanyabayonga is located on the northern front in the conflict between the rebel movement M23 and forces loyal to the government of Congo-Kinshasa. The city is home to tens of thousands of people, and many more who have fled there in recent months due to the unrest.
The neighboring country Rwanda has long been suspected of supporting the rebel movement.
