Lightning strikes during monsoon storms in eastern India have killed at least 33 people in the past week, according to local authorities.
Most of the deaths occurred in the province of Bihar between Wednesday and Thursday, and the victims were mostly farmers and outdoor workers.
The government of Bihar states that it is trying to raise awareness among the population to take precautionary measures after a warning of lightning.
At least 243 people died from lightning in 2024, according to the state government.
The monsoon rains in eastern India take place between June and September. The region is then affected by floods that annually lead to deaths and evacuation and displacement of people.
