The police's barricade was rammed with the help of a car when the right-wing extremist politician Rasmus Paludan burned a Koran at Skånegården outside Malmö in April 2022. Now the driver of the car is sentenced to two and a half years in prison for gross sabotage against emergency services.
There was a risk that police officers would be injured when parts of the barricade were thrown away, writes Malmö District Court in the verdict. The driver's actions also significantly hindered the police's ability to maintain order at the scene.
Police officers have testified during the trial that the tense atmosphere at the scene escalated, that stone-throwing against the police increased, and that large crowds gathered when the car rammed the barricade.
The man has explained his actions by saying that he was very provoked by Paludan's actions – and by the police protecting him.
