The Philadelphia District Attorney is tasked with protecting the public from public nuisances and unfair business practices, including illegal lotteries, says Krasner in a statement.

The prosecutor also has the task of protecting the public from interference in the integrity of the election, continues Krasner.

The lottery involves voters in swing states who register to vote participating in a drawing where the prize is one million dollars – approximately ten million kronor. Musk, one of Trump's most outspoken supporters and donors, has handed out several such million-dollar checks at Trump's campaign rallies. He is set to continue with one per day until the election on November 5.

The American Justice Department has warned Musk that the lottery may violate federal law, which prohibits paying people to register to vote.
