Roger Adolfsson, security coordinator at the education administration, says that the purpose is to prevent drug abuse, strengthen safety, and mark zero tolerance against drugs.
Considering how society looks today, it's not unthinkable that children hide drugs in their lockers.
Individual schools have previously been able to hire dog handlers and drug-sniffing dogs. The police have also been able to conduct searches. But according to Adolfsson, it's not always possible for the police to search for drugs in schools for preventive purposes, as concrete suspicions are often required.
We want to make it easier for schools, he says.
The dogs will search the schools outside of school hours and at the initiative of the school management, and there are no requirements for suspicion of a crime. If drugs are found, the matter will be handed over to the police.
