A local politician in India was brutally murdered on Friday by a gang that attacked him with machetes and other sharp objects. Eight people have been arrested.
The victim, politician K Armstrong, was the chairman of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The party was formed to represent the lower castes and the country's so-called casteless.
According to the police, six people arrived on motorcycles before attacking his head and neck and then fled, writes The Times of India.
Armstrong was taken to hospital, but his life could not be saved.
The murder is condemned by BSP leader Mayawati – who only uses one name – who writes on X that the perpetrators must be punished. Several of Armstrong's supporters took to the streets after the murder to protest against the violence.
