Poland announces that Hungary's EU envoy is not welcome at the gala held when Poland takes over the presidency of the union.
The reason is that Hungary has granted asylum to the former Polish MP Marcin Romanowski. The former Deputy Justice Minister Romanowski, who belongs to the Law and Justice party (PIS), is accused of corruption in his home country.
Romanowski chose to flee from an arrest warrant. Poland's Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski believes that Hungary's welcoming of him is a "hostile act". The Deputy EU Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka has announced that Hungary's EU ambassador is therefore not welcome at the gala dinner when Poland takes over the presidency from Hungary.
Budapest, in turn, calls the decision "pathetic and childish".
