The Danish-Swedish politician and provocateur Rasmus Paludan is convicted by the Copenhagen District Court for a racist statement.
The statement was made, according to the prosecutor, during a demonstration in Copenhagen in 2019 and was posted on the party Stram Kurs' public YouTube channel. In the video, Paludan made statements about Somalis.
However, Paludan avoids punishment this time, since he was previously convicted of the same crime in 2021, which resulted in a conditional sentence. The crime is Denmark's equivalent to incitement against a group of people.
At the same time, the court acquits him of a charge related to a video from 2018. The court finds that it is not proven that Paludan is behind the publication and thus the dissemination. In that video, he expressed himself about Islam and Muslims.
In early November, Rasmus Paludan was also convicted by the Malmö District Court to four months' imprisonment for incitement against a group of people and defamation, a verdict that he has said he will appeal.
