The death toll is rising after several devastating landslides in the state of Kerala in southern India, triggered by heavy rainfall.
A total of 151 people have been confirmed dead by Wednesday morning, but the rescue effort is ongoing to search for more people who may be buried under mud and earth masses. Another 186 people are injured.
Several landslides occurred in the area after heavy rainfall in recent days. Houses were destroyed, bridges were torn down, and trees were uprooted by the massive amounts of earth and mud that swept through.
Over 300 rescue workers are fighting to dig out people who may be stuck in the mud, but the rescue efforts are being hampered by blocked roads and unstable ground.
