Most fatalities, over 70, were claimed in Israel's attack on Bait Lahia, located furthest north on the Gaza Strip, according to news agency EFE, citing Wafa, which is under the Palestinian authority on the occupied West Bank.
Israel's military referred to intense militia activities in Bait Lahia as the reason for around ten attacks with both air and ground forces in the area over the weekend. However, according to Palestinian witnesses, the bombs caused residential buildings to collapse, resulting in a large number of dead, injured – and civilians trapped in the rubble.
The chances of rescuing more injured are decreasing due to continued shelling, said civil defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal to news agency AFP on Sunday evening.
