Uganda's opposition leader Bobi Wine was shot in the leg in a confrontation with the police on Tuesday. The incident is said to have taken place outside the capital Kampala.

"He was shot in the leg and seriously injured", his party, the National Unity Platform, reports on X, and claims that it was an attempt to kill Wine.

Confrontations between Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, and the police have often escalated into violence, but this is the first time he has been injured in this way.

The police and other authorities have not commented on the incident.
