American sprint star and gold medalist Noah Lyles fears that the Olympic Games are over for him this time. This after he tested positive for covid-19.
"I think this is the end of my Olympic Games 2024", Lyles writes on Instagram.
After taking gold on 100 meters, he had to settle for bronze on 200 meters. He has said that the illness affected his performance in Thursday's final on 200 meters. After crossing the finish line, he was wheeled out of the stadium in a wheelchair.
In an interview with NBC, Lyles says he felt really bad when he woke up on Tuesday and a test showed covid. Despite this, he decided, with the approval of the American athletics leadership, to participate in the final two days later.
If Noah Lyles had stayed healthy, he would likely have been a natural choice for the USA's relay team on 4x100 meters on Friday.
"This is not the Olympic Games I dreamed of, but it has given me so much joy", Lyles writes further.
