Öberg takes World Championship silver - national team captain moved

The emotions swelled after Elvira Öberg took silver in the pursuit over 10 kilometers at the World Championship in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The 25-year-old secured both Sweden's first medal in the championship and her first individual World Championship medal.

The national team captain Johannes Lukas was moved.

Sometimes the system works. It's mostly relief now, he says to SVT.

Elvira Öberg, who had health problems before the championship, worked her way up from a tenth place in Friday's sprint.

This is something I've been waiting for. I have my Olympic Games medals, but I've had some bad luck at the World Championship. Despite poor preparation, it went well, she says to SVT.

After the race, she was hugged by, among others, her big sister Hanna Öberg, who also looked moved.

She really knows what it means to me, says Elvira Öberg.

The 25-year-old, who already has individual Olympic Games medals and relay medals from the World Championship, shot full marks in the first three shootings and was fourth before the final standing shooting.

She then hit four out of five shots and passed the home athlete Lena Häcki-Gross, who missed three shots. On the track, Öberg then overtook Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, who took the World Championship gold in the sprint. It became a bronze for the Frenchwoman.

Franziska Preuss, Germany, won by a wide margin, 39.1 seconds ahead of Öberg, after shooting full marks in all four shootings.

Anna Magnusson became the next best Swedish athlete, finishing seventh. Ella Halvarsson finished ninth, just like in the sprint when she was the best Swedish athlete, and Hanna Öberg eleventh.
