On the hunt for drain cleaners for the sink? Be prepared to obtain a permit and register at the time of purchase. New rules from the turn of the year require both consumers and sellers to comply.
If a private individual wants to buy strong corrosive drain cleaners, the stores must check that the private individual has a permit. They must also store the products out of reach and note who and what quantities have been purchased, says Susanna Norrthon Risberg, an advisor at the Chemicals Agency, to Sveriges Radio Skaraborg.
The new rules have been introduced since there have been annual reports of serious accidents related to the use of corrosive drain cleaners. The accidents become particularly severe when children swallow drain cleaning products, which can lead to life-threatening injuries.
