A Norwegian citizen who was arrested on Monday by the Norwegian security police PST on suspicion of espionage on behalf of China has now been detained.
The man will now be detained for four weeks with a ban on letters and visits, according to prosecutor Thomas Blom.
The man was arrested at Oslo's Gardermoen airport when he landed after a trip to China. According to PST, he had information with him intended for Chinese intelligence, but the authority does not disclose what kind of information it is.
This is about fundamental national interests and information that could be harmful if it falls into the hands of other nations, says Thomas Blom.
The man denies the crime and requests to be released.
He denies being an agent for China and he is not guilty of what he is accused of, says the man's defender Marius Dietrichson to NRK.
