Dolly Parton's book project "Fantasibiblioteket" ("Imagination Library Program") may lose its public funding. The project, which provides books to young readers in several states, was left out of the budget proposed by Republicans in the state of Indiana without explanation, reports South Bend Tribune.
The "Fantasibiblioteket" was started by Parton in 1996 and gives a book per month to children from birth to five years old across the entire USA. The project has been praised, even by Republicans, and is considered to have significantly helped increase literacy in Indiana.
Representatives of the Democrats in the state say, however, that they will fight for the project to receive funding in their own upcoming budget proposal.
