BBC's former news anchor Huw Edwards has admitted to handling child pornographic images.

In a brief hearing in a London court on Wednesday, he admitted to committing offenses in three cases between December 2020 and April 2022. Huw Edwards acknowledged to the court that he had 41 child pornographic images sent to him by another man on the messaging service Whatsapp.

The 62-year-old Edwards was one of BBC's most prominent profiles, leading the channel's news broadcasts and often involved in reporting from major national events.

Edwards resigned from BBC in April citing health reasons.

He was arrested in November 2023, released on bail, and subsequently charged in June this year.

A verdict in the case is expected to be announced on September 16.
