New top figure but no new attendance record

Ticket sales landed on a good bit over 21,000 – but a few thousand buyers did not show up. Hammarby could not offer a new Swedish audience record in this year's last home match. 18,746 saw the 0-3 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League and bid farewell to Ellen Gibson.

For a few weeks ago, Hammarby set a fine record for Swedish club team football on the women's side. A good bit over 20,000 spectators came to lift the team against Manchester City.

That Barcelona has a slightly higher attraction than Manchester City was not enough to attract the spectators required for a new, impressive attendance figure.

Those who came got the opportunity to bid farewell to a veteran. Ellen Gibson, 28, is leaving the club after 24 years, as her contract is not being extended.

Gibson, who started on the bench, was hailed by the fans with a powerful tifo:

"The Queen of Södermalm" followed by her name, which framed a portrait of the defender/midfielder who has played in the senior team since 2011.

As early as four years old, she took her first steps as a Hammarby player.

She replaced Jonna Andersson – who also played her last home match for Hammarby – in the 88th minute. Gibson was met with strong applause and immediately took over the captain's armband.

It has been unforgettable memories from all these years. To win with the team in your heart is something special. The SM gold and cup gold I hold high, says Gibson during the farewell.
