The shooter Philip Jönsson misses the final on 10 meter air rifle, prone, in the Paralympics. The top eight in the qualifying round advanced, but the Swede finished in 19th place with 633.5 points. The shooter who took the eighth and final spot in the final had 636.4 points.
Philip Jönsson previously missed the final on 10 meter air rifle, standing, during the championship. In that discipline, Jönsson was the reigning champion after winning the gold in the Paralympics in Tokyo 2021.
It was Sweden's only gold in Japan, but ahead of this year's Paralympics, Jönsson has stated that the build-up has been tough. Jönsson has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disease that causes muscles to break down and be replaced by fat and connective tissue, and has been "in and out of hospital", as he put it in a recent interview with Dagens Nyheter.
Jönsson will also compete in 50 meter rifle, prone. The shooting in the Paralympics takes place, just like during the Olympic Games, in Châteauroux, which is located 28 miles outside Paris.
