New efforts against Swedish crime wave in Denmark

That Swedish youths are willing to murder and blow up in Denmark leads to an even closer police cooperation. Now a Danish police officer has moved over to the police in Malmö and another is placed at the police's national operational department in Stockholm.

Danish and Swedish gangs do not work within borders. Therefore, it is important that we from the police side also work together, says Torben Svarrer at Denmark's national unit against special criminality, to TT.

This placement is something we have planned for a longer time and aims to strengthen an already well-functioning cooperation, he says.

The next step is to start working more operationally together at the national level.

It is, of course, easier to work when you have each other live in front of you, comments Fredrik Bratt, commanding officer for the Swedish police's special event against gang violence, Frigg.

Swedish wave in Denmark

Denmark has recently experienced a wave of Swedish teenagers who have been arrested suspected of involvement in attempted murder. According to Svarrer, there is still nothing indicating that Swedish gangs have established themselves there or that there is a conflict between Swedish and Danish gangs.

Instead, there is a theory that Swedish teenage boys have taken on assignments in the country for payment.

I cannot go into details, but something suggests that two groups in Denmark have not been in agreement. Since April, we have seen that it has escalated. Someone has stolen drugs from someone else and wanted to do something to get it back.

It is here that the Swedish teenagers are suspected of having entered the picture.

In general, we have seen young Swedish guys who have taken on assignments via social media for payment. We have heard that it involves sums from 100,000 kronor and upwards. Whether it is Danish or Swedish kronor, I do not know.

Planned crimes stopped

Danish police have also prevented a number of serious crimes. According to Svarrer, several Swedish citizens have been arrested in Denmark before a crime was committed.

Swedish police also claim to have prevented planned crimes in Denmark.

We have a situation picture today and are so close to these environments that we have stopped crimes both in Sweden and what we believe could have happened in Denmark as well, says Fredrik Bratt.

The youths come from all over Sweden. Here, there are very young men who see murder as a career choice, he describes.

It has been noted in Denmark that it is relatively easy to use Swedish youths who can imagine committing this type of crime.
