Nesser's Barbarotti books are being filmed

Now Håkan Nessers' books about police officer Gunnar Barbarotti will be made into a TV series. The idea is that the books will be turned into six hour-long episodes each.

The casting is going on right now, but I'm not allowed to say anything about it yet, says Håkan Nesser to TT.

The first book about Barbarotti, "Man Without a Dog", was published in 2007. Since then, eight more books have been published. Book number nine, "Young Man's Journey into the Night", was published last summer, and the tenth is planned to be published in the summer of 2025.

Then it's over. Ten is a good number. There were ten Van Veeteren books, then ten Barbarotti books, and one, "The Left-Handers' Club", where both were involved.

Nesser thinks it's excellent that the books are being made into long TV series.

Otherwise, they've just shrunk the books down to an hour and a half, and a lot has disappeared along the way, he says.

The filming starts in 2026. So far, Håkan Nesser is not allowed to reveal where the TV series will be broadcast.

Nesser was sentenced in June by the Svea Court of Appeal to 1.5 years in prison for three cases of aggravated tax fraud, but has consistently denied the allegations and appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court.
