198 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia this year. This means that the country has carried out the highest number of executions in more than 30 years.
Last year, only Iran and China had more executions, according to the human rights organization Amnesty International.
After Saudi Arabia announced the latest executions, the figure for the year has exceeded the 196 people who were executed in 2022 and 192 who were executed in 1995, according to the organization, which began keeping statistics on the numbers in 1990.
