The body of an American climber has been found at high altitude in the Andes in Peru – 22 years after the man disappeared in the area.
Peruvian police report that the "mummified" body, preserved by the cold climate, was discovered at an altitude of over 5,000 meters in the Ancash region.
The 58-year-old man was on his way to climb the 6,768-meter-high Huascarán, South America's fourth highest peak, when he and two climbing companions died in an avalanche accident in 2002. The bodies of one of the three men are still missing.
