Several people were killed on Sunday in an Israeli air raid on a school building near Gaza City, where humanitarian aid was being distributed, according to witnesses on the scene quoted by Reuters.
Israel claims that the building was now being used by the extremist organisation Hamas.
We pulled out martyrs (dead people). One of them used to sell cold drinks, another sold pastries, and another distributed and received coupons, says witness Mohammed Tafesh to the Reuters news agency.
According to Tafesh, there were four or five dead and ten injured.
The Israeli military confirms that it carried out an air raid, claiming that the site – which previously served as the headquarters of the UN agency Unrwa – was being used by the terrorist-designated Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
"This is yet another example of how Hamas systematically exploits civilian infrastructure and the civilian population as a human shield in its terrorist activities", the Israeli military said in a statement.
