"MP's success a dream start for the Greens"

EU candidate became a success for the Green Party, which provisionally became the third largest party with 13.8 per cent of the votes. This does not affect their place in Swedish politics, but it's a major success for them, says political scientist Andreas Johansson Heinö to TT.

EU-election candidate became a success for the Green Party, which preliminarily became the third largest party with 13.8% of the votes.

Social Democrats were expected to become the largest party in the European Parliament election, but when the third largest party was announced – M became second – many were taken aback. It was not the Sweden Democrats, but the Green Party.

MP receives preliminarily 13.8% of the votes, which can be compared to the Sweden Democrats' 13.2%.

Johansson Heinö does not believe that MP's success will make any significant difference to the party's position on the national stage.

For the Sweden Democrats, the significant decline, 2.1 percentage points compared to the 2019 EU election, may have consequences.

According to Johansson Heinö, SD must conduct a critical internal analysis of why the party is falling back.

All eight parliamentary parties cleared the hurdle to enter the European Parliament. L with the smallest possible margin, 4.4%.
