The aid package comes after the government already promised help for 10.6 billion euros last week.

Spain will allocate "all necessary resources for as long as needed", says Pedro Sánchez at a press conference.

At least 222 people died as a result of the storm that hit Spain a couple of weeks ago. The region of Valencia was hardest hit. Mudslides destroyed roads and railways, cars were swept away, and arable land was flooded. Thousands of soldiers, police officers, and others are working to repair damaged infrastructure, distribute aid, and search for people who are still missing.

On Saturday, 130,000 people in Valencia protested against the authorities' actions before and after the floods. But right now, rebuilding is the priority, according to Pedro Sánchez.

Later, there will be a political debate about what we need to improve regarding this climate crisis, he says at a press conference on Monday.

This week, another storm and heavy rain are expected over Valencia, according to the national weather agency Aemet.
