At the telecom company, 5.6 million attempts to access abuse material were blocked in 2024. This is a 38 percent increase compared to 2023.

A large part of the increase can be explained by the police working more intensively to combat the spread.

"The police's work has become increasingly effective, resulting in the lists we receive from them being both more up-to-date and of higher quality," says Tele2's Group Security Manager Jonas Lindström in a press release.

Tele2 and other operators are collaborating with the police and children's rights organizations such as Ecpat to block users from accessing websites containing abuse material.

If someone tries to access a blocked website, they are redirected to information from the police, where it is explained, among other things, that possessing and distributing abuse material constitutes child pornography offenses.
